Why should I take advantage of your in-home design service?

You don't want furniture that is the wrong size or color for your room, that makes your room over-furnished or under-furnished, or that is not properly designed for your individual home. However, thousands of people make those mistakes and more every day.

At times, these common mistakes end up costing shoppers more money, to say nothing of the inconvenience of returning and re-selecting furniture that is a better fit for their room size, colors, textures and budget.

Christensen's Furniture offers complementary design consultation to all our customers both in-store and in-home to work with your ideas, your needs, your tastes and your home to help you plan the right room or home.

How can I keep my furniture looking new?
Proper care is essential to protecting your furniture investment.

Upholstered items should be vacuumed regularly--weekly in high use rooms (just like your carpets). Cushions and pillows should be fluffed weekly; some down and other soft cushions may need fluffing even more often.

Leather should be dusted and wiped regularly with a damp cloth. As differently-cured leathers require different treatment, use only a leather cleaner recommended by the manufacturer for that leather.

Mattresses should be rotated quarterly; pillow-top and plush may need rotation every six weeks. During the first 6 months, mattresses need rotation every month. Box springs should be rotated annually.

Wood items need regular dusting; avoid applying furniture polish as excess polish can build up and damage the finish.  We reccomend Guardsman products that contain no silicone, only natural ingredients.

Periodic cleaning extends the life and appearance of all your furniture, but cleaning and care products should be tested first on a non-visible area. Please check with your Sales Consultant or Designer if you have questions on care.

Food and other household items can ruin many upholstered items. Ask us about applying products that protect leather or fabric against permanent stains and certain other damages. See your Sales Consultant for pricing and warranty protection details.

What's the difference between innerspring and foam mattresses?
Foam mattresses have more uniform support than inner-spring mattresses. Foam mattresses can retain more heat than inner-spring mattresses. Foam mattresses can be bent into rooms with restricted doorways and or stairs. Innerspring mattresses usually permanently compress less than foam.  Please remember that the foundation is not bendable.  We also offer a two piece foundation in King AND Queen sidzes

Does a mattress have to be firm to be supportive?
No. Firmness should not be confused with mattress hardness. The surface of the mattress must yield enough to allow your body contours to receive an upward push for support.

What are the advantages of a single-sided mattress?
Contemporary mattresses tend to be heavier. It is easier to single-sided mattresses rotate than to flip contemporary mattresses.

How do I fit a large or king-size mattress through a narrow space?
Inner-spring mattresses have a slight amount of bend before you permanently bend the wire inside. It is the foundation that requires 2 pieces. Split queen foundations are also available. We will pre-examine your home for delivery if necessary before you order. It helps if you have a simple drawing of where the delivery will go and also the door sizes.

What's a typical warranty?
Standard manufacturer's warranties are one year. Some upholstery companies have extended warranties for various components. Fabrics generally have one year coverage. Some characteristics like pilling, fussing, and color fastness are not covered.  If you have a problem, it is always better to report it as soon as possible. Fabrics can be discontinued overnight and repairing becomes more difficult the longer you wait. Ask to see the written manufacturer's warranty for the details on your particular model. Note that the warranties may vary within the same company.  We reccomend that you always use a mattress pad to proctect the cover.
